SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME

he scientific programme proposes different exchanges focussing on the latest advances in music technology research, and on its implications for the general public and sound and music professionals. The first edition of Resonances emphasises the theme of access to musical content, which represents a major strategic focus for IRCAM, as well as the music industry in general. The availability, on a global scale, of digital transmission networks, is in effect upending not only traditional music distribution methods, but also the ways and means of listening to and presenting musical works.

This theme will be illuminated by way of the following events :

-  the international ISMIR symposium - an occasion to regroup major music information research specialists, whose work is forming the basis of future musical database navigation systems.

-  IRCAM's Forum workshops, the twice-yearly rendez-vous for IRCAM software users, including special sessions on the European CUIDADO project, and on musical metadata, with special guests.

-  the colloquium on instrumented listening, the object of which is to ask this question : how is the way we listen to recorded music modified by the use of the new access systems which will replace hi-fi systems ?

Beyond this central theme, this programme proposes different points of view on the the art of music technologies. In the context of the conference-debates and the exposition spaces, IRCAM will welcome speakers from the industrial, research, and institutional sectors, who will present their recent work.

These events will continue throughout the weekend, by way of scientific conferences and 'open days' on the theme of new instruments.
