ARTISTIC PROGRAMME

he aim of Resonances is to encourage the spirit of discovery and experimentation. In parallel with the scientific conferences and presentations, Resonances proposes an artistic programme which directly reflects research themes and goals, and which brings the experience and knowledge of the IRCAM teams to light.

Two concerts will present the works of ten young composers who have studied for one year at IRCAM. These works, for solo instrument and electronics, show how technological tools can be molded by and stimulate very diverse uses. These concerts will also demonstrate how young composers, coming from all over the world, have assimilated the possibilities of computers into their musical approach.

The concert-readings, devoted to the theme of instruments, will give pride of place to the composers and performers who have all developed specific relationships with the instrumental concept, whether it consist of period instruments, such as the harpsichord, extensions of existing instruments (e.g. piano modified by computer), or the search for radically new instruments. In all cases, the dialectic between tradition and innovation is constantly questioned and integrated into musical thinking. Finally, the installations and the Metallomix concert will allow you to hear (and listen to) the artistic "cross-currents", the encounters of music and visual art, intellectual approaches and popular manifestations : what links all these artists is a common spirit of discovery and experimentation.
