Riikka Talvitie 

Composer Talvitie, Riikka

Riikka TALVITIE was born in Finland in 1970. Following oboe studies, she studied composition at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki from 1995 to 2001 with Tapio Nevanlinna and Paavo Heininen. From 1995 to 1996 she continued her oboe studies at the Conservatoire de Paris with Jean-Louis Capezzali and Jaques Tys, and followed a composition course with Gérald Grisey. She has participated in numerous UNM festivals (young Nordic music festivals) in Scandinavian countries. She has also taken master classes with Magnus Lindberg, Jouni Kaipainen and Esa-Pekka Salonen. Her orchestra piece Selim's Smiles was performed in 2001 by the Sinfonietta de Pori in Finland, and by the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in Denmark. Her oboe concerto ululuikku was performed at the Musica Nova Festival in Helsinki. Her piece Même mort, commissioned by the Musicatreize vocal ensemble, was premiered at the Tampere Biennial in April 2002.
