Lanza, Mauro
Born in Venice in 1975, Mauro Lanza studied piano at the B. Marcello Conservatory, where he obtained his degree in 1997 with highest mention. Parallel to his composition and musicology studies at the Ca' Foscari University, he followed various courses with the composers Brian Ferneyhough (Asolo, 1992), Salvatore Sciarrino (Cittŕ di Castello, 1995 and 1996), Gérard Grisey (Reggio Emilia, 1996) and Alessandro Solbiati (Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano, 1998). He won two first prizes at the Valentino Bucchi International Composition Competition (Rome, 1996) and at the Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa Composition Competition (Potenza, 1998). In 1998-99, following his selection by the Ensemble Intercontemporain and IRCAM, he participated in the Composition and Computer Music course. He was a finalist among composers who competed for the creation of an opera project in the context of the Aix-en-Provence Festival and the Klangfiguren Project (Frankfurt). His works have been premiered by the Ensemble InterContemporain, during the Radio France Présences Festival, and the Venice Biennial. Presently he is preparing a chamber work commissioned by the Court-Circuit Ensemble, and is working at IRCAM as a research composer.
