Jérôme COMBIER, born in 1971, first studied composition, writing, analysis, and orchestration with Hacène Larbi. He received the first prize for counterpoint at the Rueil-Malmaison CNR. In 1997, he entered the CNSM de Paris with first-place marks, in Emmanuel Nunes' class. In 1998, he received a first prize in analysis in Michaël Lévinas' class. His university studies led him to a Master's thesis on Anton Webern. In 1995, he was a finalist for the Griegselskalpet Prize (Oslo). In 1998, he received the prize for the Second Franco-Australian Composition Competition, organised by the CNSMDP. In September 1998, he was a resident of the Royaumont Foundation, and studied with Brian Ferneyhough and Antoine Bonnet. In the context of a Royaumont exchange program, he lived in Japan as a resident composer for two months. In 2000, he created an orchestration for the Orchestre National de Lille, and subsequently received a commission from the Wallonie String Orchestra. Recently, he has worked with such ensembles as Court-circuit, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, and the Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles. In 2001, he received a composition prize (by acclaim), and was selected to participate in IRCAM's Composition and Computer Music course. Jérôme Combier is an award recipient of the Fondation Bleustein-Blanchet.
