"Sonic Process" is the first exhibition at the Pompidou Center in Paris dealing with the electronic music of the last decade. It is organized according to a particular geography of sites, trajectories and intersections, without any claim to exhaustively cover the entirety of sound-based art. Organised by the New Medias Department of the Musée National d'Art Moderne, it will be presented from October 22, 2002 to January 13, 2003. Before that it will be shown as a "preview" at the MacBa in Barcelona, from May 2 to July 1, 2002.

In a 1,500 square-meter sound studio at the heart of the Center's South Galleries, "Sonic Process" presents installations by musicians and visual artists/musicians, who pursue identified objectives in one way or another (Doug Aitken, Mike Kelley), or who experiment with more specific approaches by looking for outlets beyond the usual circuits of art dissemination (Coldcut, Scanner, David Shea, Renée Green, Johan Grimonprez, Tosca, etc).

Sonic Process is supported artistically and technically by the IRCAM which provided its assistance to the creation of the installations of David Shea and Doug Aitken. The IRCAM also joined the Centre Pompidou in providing documentation for the event for those members of the public interested in sound experiments.

The web site is an informative and evolving part of the exhibition. It documents the work of the exhibition artists and the catalogue authors by video interviews and biographical and bibliographical information. The "events" heading is a platform of information concerning the activities of the artists prior to the exhibition ; it also announces the program of concerts and performances that will take place during the exhibition.
